January 7, 2002 Information Meeting. Members met at Living History Farms to review the proposed rules for the “In the Barn” event. Sandi Yoder, CEO of the Farms spoke briefly about their collaboration for the event. A tour of the venue, the historic Flynn Barn, concluded the evening.

February 5, 2002 In the Barn. Read and critiqued initial drafts of possible scripts plus discussed final rules and procedures for the May event. Seventeen members at Boddy Media.

March 26, 2002 In the Barn. Cold readings of the six scripts selected for the Living History Farms event. At Boddy Media.

April 16, 2002 Script Reading. Scripts written for In the Barn but not selected for production were read. Old Money by Gary DeSomber, A Family Way by Howard Herstein, Finding Elvis by Patrice Beam, The Farm Prisoner by Laura Walth, and Make Believe by Lorenzo Sandoval. At Boddy Media.

May 10-11, 2002 In the Barn. Six original, member-written one-act plays performed at Living History Farms. Hey Gang! Let’s Put on a Show by William SE Coleman, Due Time by Barbara Alvord, In the Barn by Steve Hakeman, The Tour Guide by Gary DeSomber, The Last Shot by Jon Heitland, and Grace Period by Pat Boddy and Dave DeBord.

June 15, 2002 First Ten Minutes Workshop. As part of the IMPA annual meeting and awards day. Three scripts were read: Centerville by Joanna Courteau and Charles Gratto, The Death of Byron by Steven Hakeman, and Off Balance by James Serpento. At the Hotel Savery.

July 9, 2002 Annual Meeting and Picnic Social. Had food and beverages, elected new Board members, discussed prior and upcoming events, and had a lot of socializing. Election results: Dave DeBord-President, Kay Rhoads-Vice President, Steve Hakeman-Treasurer, Barb Alvord-Secretary, Pat Boddy-Past President, Bill Coleman-President Emeritus, Max Allan Collins-Eastern Iowa Connection, Shirley Long-Membership and new board member Lorenzo Sandoval. At Dave DeBord’s house.

July 20, 2002 Road to Perdition. A special screening of the movie based on the book by Max Allan Collins, board member of ISA and IMPA. A reception at 7:00, with hors d’oeuvres and beverages, viewing the movie, then a special auction that included items from the New York City premiere. Co-sponsored with IMPA, The Fleur Cinema & Café, and Variety Children’s Charities of Iowa.

August 14, 2002 IMPA Liaison. Established an official position on the IMPA Board for an ISA Liaison.

September 10, 2002 5-Page Scripts. A Workshop where member-written 5-page movie scripts were read and reviewed. Writers were instructed to make any appropriate revisions then submit their scripts to a web-based 5-page movie script contest in New Jersey (moviepoet.com). At Boddy Media

September 13-15, 2002 Boundaries: The Holy Land. Movie screenings at Fleur Cinema co-sponsored by IMPA, The Need to Know Film Consortium, and many others. Movies included Exodus, The Woman Next Door, Tale of the Three Jewels, Promises, and Adrift in the Heartland.

October 12, 2002 Playwright vs. Director – Who is in Charge Here? An intensive and extensive workshop for playwrights and directors in all mediums. William S. E. Coleman, professor emeritus of theatre arts, Drake University focused on the relationship of the director and playwright, how a director works, and some basics of the rehearsal process. At the Urbandale Library.

October 2002 Moviepoets.com. Three ISA members (Barbara Alvord, Ethelyn Boddy, and William Coleman) were finalists in the Third Quarter Five-Minute online screenplay contest. Ethelyn Boddy won the contest.

October 22, 2002 Script Readings. Potential scripts for submission to the Shooting Scripts competition were read and critiqued. At Dave DeBord’s house.

December 3, 2002 Play Reading Reading of Anita Larsen play Velveteen Rabbit. At Meredith Publishing Conference Core.

December 28, 2002 Shooting Scripts. An all-day session where three 5-minute member-written screenplays were filmed in a production studio. Three Women by Max Allan Collins, Meeting Dinah by Joanna Louise Johnson, and Power of Love by Steve Hakeman. Seventy people attended. At Applied Art and Technology.
