January 24, 1998 Instant Character Workshop. Dave DeBord facilitated a workshop on Character Development where writers wrote the name of one of their characters on a sheet of paper. Other writers then added one specific characteristic for that character. Then the original writer had half an hour to assemble the new characteristics, one from each other writer, and develop an instant monologue for the original character using all of those characteristics.
February 7, 1998 “Set-iquette” Workshop. Introduced new and future crewmembers to the film/video set with information on how the set is run, what everyone’s duties are, do’s and don’ts, and terminology. Plus a discussion on how to survive financially as a freelancer. Organized by IMPA and supported by ISA. At Meredith Hall Studio at Drake.
February 21, 1998 Low-Budget Filmmaking. A workshop on Tying the Shoestrings: Writing for Low-Budget Films. Central Iowa actors read a new script, 666 by Max Collins. Max, James Serpento, and Kim Busbee discuss how to write and produce low-budget films. At Drake Fine Arts Center.

May 2, 1998 First Ten Minutes Workshop. The first ten pages of four scripts were read and critiqued during the IMPA annual workshops and awards day.
