“All
About Me”
A monthly
ISA Writers Group meeting to discuss scripts--yours, of course!
Guidelines:
All About Me Writer's groups will be scheduled on an ongoing basis so that
ISA members have the opportunity to:
- Hear their work read aloud by other group members or invited actors,
- Listen to and respond to comments about their work, and
- Provide feedback for other group members having their work read.
Writer's can choose material from a screenplay, stageplay, any other scripted
piece or a piece of related writing such as a logline, a query letter, a synopsis,
etc.
Procedures:
- Writers should contact the group facilitator ahead of time to reserve a
spot for their reading. Writers without a reserved spot are encouraged to
bring their material in case there are unanticipated changes but a spot is
not insured.
- Writers, please time your material. Total time for the actual reading should
be no longer than 10 minutes. Depending on the density of the script one page
usually means about 1 to 1-1/2 minutes.
- Writers, please bring enough copies of your script so that parts can be
assigned for the readings. Writers can select readers or ask the facilitator
to do that. A major benefit of readings is the opportunity for you to hear
your characters speak. Reading your own work will diminish the value of the
experience.
- 15 minutes is allotted for response to each reading. Writers might want
to pose some questions for the group to make this a more structured process
or to get particular points clarified.
- The group process will be more beneficial if members are candid in their
feedback but state their comments in a supportive and encouraging manner.
- Writers really don't need to defend their work but are encouraged to ask
for clarification or consensus on points that seem confusing.
- Please come on a regular basis. The success of the group depends on every
member being a part of the process. Have a cup of coffee and listen to some
interesting readings and informative feedback.
- Suggestions? Contact someone on the board.
- Want to facilitate the next group? Great, let
us know and consider yourself enlisted!
