“All About Me”

A monthly ISA Writers Group meeting to discuss scripts--yours, of course!

Guidelines:

All About Me Writer's groups will be scheduled on an ongoing basis so that ISA members have the opportunity to:

Writer's can choose material from a screenplay, stageplay, any other scripted piece or a piece of related writing such as a logline, a query letter, a synopsis, etc.

Procedures:

  1. Writers should contact the group facilitator ahead of time to reserve a spot for their reading. Writers without a reserved spot are encouraged to bring their material in case there are unanticipated changes but a spot is not insured.
  2. Writers, please time your material. Total time for the actual reading should be no longer than 10 minutes. Depending on the density of the script one page usually means about 1 to 1-1/2 minutes.
  3. Writers, please bring enough copies of your script so that parts can be assigned for the readings. Writers can select readers or ask the facilitator to do that. A major benefit of readings is the opportunity for you to hear your characters speak. Reading your own work will diminish the value of the experience.
  4. 15 minutes is allotted for response to each reading. Writers might want to pose some questions for the group to make this a more structured process or to get particular points clarified.
  5. The group process will be more beneficial if members are candid in their feedback but state their comments in a supportive and encouraging manner.
  6. Writers really don't need to defend their work but are encouraged to ask for clarification or consensus on points that seem confusing.
  7. Please come on a regular basis. The success of the group depends on every member being a part of the process. Have a cup of coffee and listen to some interesting readings and informative feedback.
  8. Suggestions? Contact someone on the board.
  9. Want to facilitate the next group? Great, let us know and consider yourself enlisted!
